The COGOP in Peru started in 1953 in the San Cosme community, La Victoria, Peru. It has been 67 years since its beginning, however, educating and growing the church required some important changes to experience some progressive growth. In 2001 the church had around 14,000 members in Peru and realized that growth was not something that happened spontaneously but should be based on a structured formation to prepare pastors, leaders and members in general. Since 2003, and as part of a strategic plan, the COGOP implemented an operative plan to encourage sustained growth; with goals and contextual emphasis, and to respond to our specific needs to reach our immediate, intermediate, and long terms goals. The problem manifests most acutely at the local church level where ministry leaders are struggling with divorce, mental illness, moral relativism, and poverty. Pentecostalism is failing to measure up to its potential where the human experience intersects with religious life. This project took a multilateral approach to the problem. The first approach used a theological method to survey the biblical description of spiritual formation and the existential need for it with special emphasis on The Book of Acts and the Apostle Peter. The second approach involved a literature review and content analysis. Review and analysis considered contemporary and historic theology along with behavioral science literature related to the nature of the embodied soul, human development, and the effects of religious experience on human development. The primary data was developed through a qualitative case study.Data developed through the multilateral approaches was coalesced to develop recommendations related to improving spiritual formation outcomes that facilitate God’s idea of human flourishing and good community in a local Pentecostal church.Three primary findings were discovered and discussed. Finding 1 related to a lack of commitment to formal education and clergy professionalization. Finding 2 related to critical biblical-theological knowledge gaps experienced by the case study participants. Finding 3 related to the consequences of a lack of diverse and specialized ministries at the local church level."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://spark.bethel.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1366\u0026context=etd"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130897981898752,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:54.727Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:58:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:21:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"641f314c-bbd6-40b8-9344-f8fd10be60b1","accessControl_ssim":["14ad918e-73dd-48c9-8be0-e3da3e7e4444"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing Mutual Spiritual Intimacy Among the leaders of Walking on the Water Ministries Through the Use of Ruth Haley Barton's Book Pursuing God's Will Together"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:58:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:03:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["98cce47b-0873-41e6-9d34-6040ba13f30e"],"hasLease_ssim":["d971170b-4989-4015-8dba-ddeb19a6d90d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Les Galicinski D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Though born into a world that held tightly to race segregation, Seymour's ministry gave a glimpse of heaven where people of 'every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation' forever worship God together (Revelation 5:9). And though Seymour's childhood included Hoodoo cult influences, he grew into a man who sought only the power and glory of God most high. By placing emphasis on the sociological conditions of Seymour's time and reviewing how this man's early life impacted his ministry training and his eventual leadership of what became a worldwide phenomenon, the author hopes to better understand the role ethnic diversity and culture played in the outpouring at Azusa, seeking to grasp how it impacted the Pentecostal movement and the body of Christ as a whole."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131044082089985,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:41:14.059Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:23:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:54:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a46c94f0-286e-40ea-8306-57778cb801f4","accessControl_ssim":["98835186-49bd-4e66-8601-db00f30efff7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Exploring a pilot process of values-based planning within a pentecostal church context"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:23:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:54:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["adfabfc6-2c1e-4e4d-9798-3bd761be6c56"],"hasLease_ssim":["35aed777-715a-4433-8356-d0214fbb96c8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dale Levi Whitson"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Values","Church","Pentecostal churches","Planning"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["An exploration of planning approaches was conducted to determine which approach should be used in the context of Biltmore Church of God. The values-based approach was subjected to a series of tests: theological and experiential. The theological revolved around an analysis of biblical themes of planning and their impact upon a values-based approach. Key finding included the necessity of pastoral integrity in home, church and community; the significance of pastoral experience and guidance toward integration in Dutch society; and value of intentionality in making churches open to all races and nationalities."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126594609217536,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:30:30.711Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:24:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"14f425a4-dadf-426b-b7c4-81d8f21fab5d","accessControl_ssim":["fcfdc77d-254f-41a4-b3e7-8d6aab5cccfb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preparing for service: a resource for Western missionaries working with Russian Pentecostals"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:44:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d2069415-c9cf-40e1-bb32-5c058851ae68"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e6a80a0-233c-4822-96d2-23c0d345cc66"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Peter Kuzmic"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"location_tesim":["Europe","Russia"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jonathan C Frazier"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)","Missionaries, American"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christianity and culture","Missionaries","Orthodox Eastern Church","Relations","Pentecostal churches","Missions","Protestant churches","Religion and culture"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis demonstrates through qualitative survey analysis that Western missionaries working with Russian Pentecostals in an Orthodox context must seriously engage the host culture, history, and religion for effective ministry. A brief comprehension of AAP-A clergy couples' uniqueness is presented. Spiritual formation, conservatism, and expressive love are matters of concern for AAP-A clergy couples facing marital anxiety. The biblical theme of expressive love is the framework for understanding the personhood in need and key to marital health. Family systems theories support biblical principles to formulate a counseling approach that elucidates expressive love.
