The project demonstrates how a monotheistic understanding of God might temper the dualistic tendency in the Christian tradition and thus bring wholeness to the individual's understanding of God, self, and community. The lament psalms are most effective in providing expressions of hopelessness, anger, fear, guilt, and hope within the context of faith. Their concept of wholeness is substantiated by contemporary scientific research. The church needs to take its part in this emerging discovery of its own ancient world. While wholism in the Psalms relates to the message of Jesus Christ, it is difficult to reconcile with the Pauline concept of human nature and consequently some of the doctrines of the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718240547504128,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:31:02.778Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:59:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:46:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"743755df-1e08-4daf-bf53-347ff8b45a57","accessControl_ssim":["a4ba20c0-b104-440c-8f64-33af3c1826e7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral dimensions of health care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:59:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:32:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["70e1574d-9428-4096-9f39-8730ecb97115"],"hasLease_ssim":["1f98fcba-7efd-4cd5-afbe-625a1aaf50d9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Tibor Chikes"],"year_tesim":["1977"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Physiological and theological aspects of the processes of healing and wholeness were discussed. In addition nurses were polled concerning their opinions about the pastor's role in health care. The surveys indicated that visiting, worship (prayer and sacraments) and counseling were the most important roles of the pastor in relation to a health crisis. In a post test survey these activities were seen by the laity as a significant part of a person's treatment towards healing. The result was an increased concern for enabling pastors to fulfill their role by both health care professionals and the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719223285514240,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:46:39.990Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:40:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f37238fe-8e5c-4728-ba72-3446248a251e","accessControl_ssim":["d52e9a84-e74a-4094-b26e-c3c1dc913b02"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Health care as a point of entry in helping a parish discover the truth of wholeness"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:40:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:04:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1f20de97-0e59-42a9-bff9-091650f4cda3"],"hasLease_ssim":["96ea0541-4eb6-46d3-be0d-6b5c458619e9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Wayne E Barr"],"year_tesim":["1983"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert D Carlyon"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Medicine and religion","Medical care","Perfection"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Based on a premise that human beings are a material reflection of the Spirit of God, that God desires wholeness (i.e., health in its fullest sense) for every person, and that the local parish church is a uniquely equipped place where wholeness can abound, this project developed a process that included education, experience, and example as a way of demonstrating how important an integrated understanding of our functional nature is to healing.
