The purpose of using these narratives was to tear down stereotypes of the Jewish people by allowing Christians to enter and explore the life experiences of Jews. A standard library research method established the theoretical support for this approach. The study included a group experiment which involved seven Christians from varied social backgrounds. Group testing was conducted at the beginning and end of the experiment using the A-S Scale found in The Authoritarian Personality by Adorno et al (1950). The group read five works of Jewish literature. Each member kept a reading log of personal responses to the literature and participated in group discussions. The results showed little change for the group as a whole. Individually, there were changes of both increased anti-Semitism and decreased anti-Semitism. The reading logs revealed that the participants struggled over their thoughts about the Jews. Frankly, one cannot truly assess the results adequately because the time was inadequate."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131150048034816,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:42:55.116Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:39:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:32:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"00c1f505-c4ed-4eea-abb9-4ac4a738aac6","accessControl_ssim":["624ad974-ac81-4f54-a084-2c17f4b19507"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Differing religious orientations: a study of the histrionic and compulsive prototypes"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:39:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:08:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d02031d8-eb18-4e31-a036-48c8c708c627"],"hasLease_ssim":["4d942e7e-0642-442e-8a5d-e92d3eb7d802"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James B Ashbrook"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Anne Daly Wente"],"keyword_tesim":["Tests and measurements in religion","Pastoral counselors and clients"],"publisher_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Attitude (Psychology)--Religious aspects","Personality tests","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project studies the religious beliefs, orientations and practices of histrionic and compulsive personality prototypes. It develops a research instrument (the Religious Orientations Questionnaire), which is given to a population that has Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventories on file. The clients answer essay questions on satisfaction in living, their understanding of faith, God and the helpfulness of pastoral counseling and submit follow-up questionnaires. The project reports on discussions with the pastoral counselors of the clients and draws practical implications. The study concludes that differing religious orientations can be documented between clients with histrionic and compulsive patterns. Female clients of all personality groups score closer to histrionic religious patterns. No other gender-related findings can be ascertained.
