The new mission strategies the writer presents are those that can help women minjung become the subjects of their own lives.  They will also contribute to the transformation of theology, church, and society. To accomplish this task, this investigation uses a detailed literature review to provide a rationale and a theological context for churches to serve as a conduit for economic empowerment. Additionally, it presents and analyzes secondary data from the independent sector to determine the current level of economic programs which are being organized by churches today.  A case analysis of the economic empowerment techniques used by churches involved in the Industrial Areas Foundation is also introduced.  Thirdly, interviews with pastors of several churches with economic assistance/empowerment programs are included. Students attended lectures on the theology of church, spirituality, and the poor.  Speakers were invited to describe ministries to the poor.  Students selected ministries and received supervision at poverty sites.  A questionnaire was designed to reveal any attitudinal changes in students' perceptions of church, spirituality, and the poor resulting from the course 'Experiences in Ministry.' The study attempted to equip thirteen participants for this challenge by involving them in cognitive, affective, active, and votive dimensions of learning.  The project initiated: 1) dialogue with the poor; 2) involvement in an unfair job situation; 3) interest in a local advocacy group.  The study evaluated these results by interpreting session tape recordings, leaders' observations, and participants' written evaluations. The guidelines/strategies were developed during a care-giving ministry that was in operation from January 1972 through December 1987.  The summary and results are based on data compiled through the use of a guided interview format.  Interview questions were used at the beginning and end of the program.  An assessment of the program's effectiveness indicated that the program was a success.  This project is written to elevate the lives of poor Black single mothers.  Its roots are embedded in developing relationships and caring for a segment of our community that is all but forgotten, the inner-city or urban America.  The basic premise is that relationships are the keys to changing lives. Regardless of the plight of people, everyone wants to be in relationship with someone whom he or she can respect and trust.
