The project helped traumatized veterans who experienced posttraumatic stress disorder and moral injury for whom other forms of therapy had not worked. Methods used were cognitive behavioral therapy and prolonged exposure therapy, in the context of a 12-week couples therapy group. Results were resolution of traumatization and forgiveness. The project was implemented through collaboration with students who attend United Theological Seminary, others connected to seminary, and community members. Participants engaged in educational workshops over a four-week period. The author proposes a biblical, Christ-centered approach for understanding PSTD and finding healing. Biblical templates challenge traditional psychological interventions and pose the possibility of new constructs for understanding trauma. The author developed and administered a 23-item questionnaire to 165 recent combat veterans and conducted 30 interviews of soldiers who have served in either Iraq or Afghanistan. It appears from this study that there are faith-specific support programs to be taken into consideration when exploring the concerns of combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder in the experience of disasters, especially as they relate to loss of place, are studied. Identification with place and the loss of place in the Katrina disaster are examined, specifically at Grace Episcopal Church and the Mid-City neighborhood. The author researched scripture, theological sources, and psychological sources related to church alienation and worldview violation. He interviewed sixteen people identified as alienated from church using criteria of PTSD to evaluate if the participants display evidence of traumatic stress response. Each participant showed evidence of traumatic stress response present from worldview violation connected with religious beliefs.
