The author led a three-year pilot partnership, evaluating program effectiveness using both quantitative and qualitative metrics, and incorporating lessons learned throughout program implementation. Client families built skills and achieved numerous goals while engaged with the program. HOLD the children's work is patterned after the Two Hands Ministry Model of Jesus. The Bible has much to say about poverty and peoples responsibilities concerning it. Development experts estimate 1.4 billion people live in extreme poverty-subsisting on a {dollar}1 a day or less. There is extensive debate over how to effectively eradicate extreme poverty. Haiti, the context for this case study, is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere where 78 percent of its people live in poverty. A significant problem in Haiti is hunger. The researcher explores difficulties First United Presbyterian Church encountered getting a ministry to the economically disadvantaged established called Peter's Place. The project is based on the proposition that increased congregational awareness concerning poverty and homelessness would create greater support for the ministry among the church's membership. A series of Community Forums was held with different community advocates about poverty, unemployment and homelessness throughout Charlotte. The author believes that economic debates in most Western countries do not place enough emphasis on the social objectives which any economic system should achieve. The project outlines and evaluates various economic systems in light of social objectives, and lays out a biblical basis for economic policy-making.  It documents poverty in New Zealand in a separate chapter.  The author concludes that dialogue between clergy and laity should lead to a positive contribution to public economic debate. The purpose of this project is to analyze the effectiveness of food banks as a means of addressing this problem.  The writer reviews the scriptures and discovers two themes: 1) everything belongs to God, and 2) God's people are to look to the needs of others.  The writer examines current literature and discovers that poverty is tied closely to hunger.  The Westside Food Bank is used as a model of food banking.  Three other food banks in Arizona also are studied.
