A comprehensive summary of the biblical data revealed the importance of this practice, and formed the basis for its theology. To illustrate the need for self-talk and to cultivate its practice, a seven-week sermon series was delivered drawing from biblical data. The preaching of the Word effectively confirmed that our inner dialogue matters to God. This paper evaluates the renditions of Psalms 1 and 2, Timothy 2:17 in the GNB, NIV, NLT, NKJV, NASB, and ESV. The introduction determines the ministry need for such a project. Chapter 1 defines concepts and introduces the Pulpit Suitability test, the measure by which the sample passages are evaluated. Chapter 2 determines the substance, structure, and spirit of the sample passages. The remaining chapters assign a suitability value to each version. The projector director researched and identified the common elements of effective conclusions in sermons and public speeches. Once identified, the project director developed and preached a six-part sermon series incorporating the common elements of effective conclusions. To ensure skill enhancement, the project director solicited feedback from a selected group of members of FishHawk Fellowship Church via a sermon feedback form. Women, African Americans and immigrants are the poorest in our society; liberation theology provides an opportunity for a most effective preaching enterprise. This thesis looks specifically at liberation-theology-focused preaching, asking these research questions: What makes for authentic preaching on behalf of those who suffer and experience oppression? The project examines the development of the unique postmodern perspective on spirituality and how the preacher can speak to postmodern hearts and minds using the textual approaches of Midrash, Lectio Divina, and deconstruction. It culminates in the delivery of a workshop and accompanying workbook for preachers who are interested in using the Revised Common Lectionary to preach to postmoderns, particularly in the setting of the non-traditional church. He believed that this was partially due to a lack of prayer regarding the preaching. He therefore led the church in cultivating an atmosphere of prayer for the preaching through deepening his own prayer life, teaching a six-week lesson series on intercessory prayer, and preaching four sermons on how to have a powerful prayer life. Members view religion as a subset of a community mutual aid society. Members have expressed a feeling of incompetence regarding their ability to read and/or understand the Bible and have communicated disinterest in learning about God although they espouse Christian values.  Therefore the challenge is to find a way of Biblical preaching that will excite this congregation and create a desire to be in relationship with God. The first chapter makes a case that a womanist hermeneutic can be used by preachers who are not black women. It is argued that effective preachers need tools that give them access to intersections of race, class, and gender for the sake of the preaching life. Preachers will be challenged to discern a theology of preaching to guide the use of any hermeneutic. The second chapter introduces preachers to womanist theology. The chapter begins with the origins of womanist theology in black and feminist theologies. A review of first, second, and third wave womanist contributions is highlighted. Finally, preachers will explore analysis of how non-black women are using methodologies of race, gender, and class. The third chapter moves us toward a womanist hermeneutic for preaching. A variety of styles of womanist interpretive criteria are presented.  Womanist strategies of reading and interrogating biblical texts are presented and each strategy is illustrated with a biblical text. The fourth chapter and the appendices share the testing method and results of the project. Assessment data is presented along with workshop participants' feedback and reflections.
