the history of Korean Christianity.  From its beginning, the churches of the PROK have had the freedom to study and express their theological knowledge. The PROK reformed with the acceptance of contemporary biblical criticism over the strong fundamentalism which insisted on the infallibility of the Bible and the theory of its mechanical inspiration.  Sermons by chosen scholars, including sermons by Rev Chaejoon Kim, a founder of the PROK, and contemporary preachers, show the clear characteristics of PROK distinctions.  The sermons are scholarly, political, topical, in-directive, and based on a manuscript, but there are some excpetions, as well. This project suggests a few directions to reform the preaching in the PROK--that Reformed preaching should be holistic, biblical, didactic, and liberation oriented. In chapter 1, the significance and aim of the study are stated.  An effort is made to clarify authority in Christianity in chapter 2. Chapter 3 discusses the authority of the pastor in the church.  The authority of the pastor in the Korean church is dealt with in chapter 4.  The following chapters examine the authority of the pastor in the PCK by means of research and personal interviews (twelve hundred pastors and congregations are included). This project studies this decrease through a review of the history of the Korean military chaplaincy. This project points out the misuse of hymns in worship. Korean ministers do not know much about church music, worship hymns, gospel hymns and gospel songs, or about the relationship between hymns and theology. Missionaries to Korea used many gospel hymns to spread Christianity. Questionnaires reveal that clergy and laity both feel home visitation is necessary. Preaching-centered ministry and home visitation must work together in Korea.  It is this project's intention to present a model of both home visitation and counseling that can be used as a guide for future ministry in Korean
