People have embraced roles, statuses, and dispositions to fit the changing Korean culture, and in the schools, this shift has resulted in the Student Rights Ordinance. Educational administrations are providing students more liberty to become individualized and egalitarian people, and these new regulations allow students to reject teachers' orders and disciplines, the traditional understanding for sexual orientation, and rules for hairstyles, clothing, pregnancy, and religion. Due to the SRO, public demonstrations between the liberal and conservative parties have escalated.\r\n\r\n The purpose of this study is to explore how Korean youth ministry pastors preach evangelically to care for teen congregants and their schools amid cultural pressure from the Student Rights Ordinance. This study examines Korean pastors’ sermons given to those directly affected by the ordinance. Analyzing the sermons can help Korean pastors navigate how to care for their congregants and school evangelization amid the cultural pressure of the ordinance.\r\n\r\n This study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with six Korean pastors who served their congregations as part-time or full-time workers. The literature review and analysis of the six interviews focused on three key areas for sustaining a preaching ministry: the six pastors’ understandings of the Student Rights Ordinance, their preaching goals and tasks to care for the teen congregants, and sermons that share the gospel in the schools that the ordinance affects.\r\n\r\n This study concluded that there are three necessary preaching components to care for the teen congregants and their schools in the cultural pressure of the Student Rights Ordinance: building Christian identity, obedience based on the Bible, and Christian inclusiveness of others. This study explored the pastors’ perspectives and found that they welcomed the spirit of human dignity that the ordinance describes. However, they were concerned by tendencies to support the self-absorbed exercise of rights and sexual immoralities. Although each of the pastors used different preaching styles, fitting their personal values and beliefs, all of them sought faithful transformation and obedience to God’s Word. While considering the pastors’ preaching goals and values, this study identified the motivations and practices which contribute to care for the teen congregants and schools that are influenced by the Student Rights Ordinance.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2022/Kim_Sunghyun_DMin_2022.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1817475330732982272,"timestamp":"2024-12-04T02:32:23.621Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-12-02T18:07:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-12-02T18:07:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d41a4e4d-1caf-438a-a8cc-027094a8b4aa","accessControl_ssim":["4caace49-b182-4eb3-a1a0-19bc23f5d697"],"depositor_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"title_tesim":["Is there a doctor in the house? : The doctor of the church in John Calvin’s theology for Presbyterian Churches in the United States of America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-12-02T18:07:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-12-02T18:07:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f56191f9-ec2a-4efb-855b-9c19a4f77d62"],"hasLease_ssim":["7d508d7f-7b81-4072-b590-43865baa90c2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts in Biblical \u0026 Theological Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Hess, Austin Andrews"],"subject_tesim":["Presbyterian Church--Government","Presbyterian Church--Clergy","Presbyterian Church--Education","Calvin, Jean, 1509-1564"],"abstract_tesim":["I examine John Calvin (born Saturday, July 10, 1509 — died Wednesday, May 27, 1564) and his doctor of the church as it applies to Presbyterian Churches in the United States of America today. I believe Calvin’s construction of the church better serves God’s people by placing skilled teachers of doctrine into church leadership, thereby letting pastors focus on the care of souls. The first chapter presents a cursory overview of the topic. The second chapter provides two important historical overviews: a biography of John Calvin and a history of European theological education. In addition, a brief portrait of higher education—Calvin’s Academy of Geneva—will be provided to observe his doctor of the church in practice. The third chapter will expound on Calvin’s main literary works that discuss the doctor of the Church: Romans 12:4-8, Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances, 1 Corinthians 12:28-31, Ephesians 4:11-14, Acts 13:1-3, and his Institutes of the Christian Religion (1559). The final chapter will explore three American Presbyterian denominations—Presbyterian Church (United States of America), Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and Presbyterian Church in America. Their various books of church order will be reviewed, along with their respective institutions of higher education—Princeton Theological Seminary, Westminster Theological Seminary, and Covenant Theological Seminary. Finally, I will offer a review and set of recommendations for these denominations to adopt."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2022/Hess_Austin_MABTS_2022.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1817352985899958272,"timestamp":"2024-12-02T18:07:46.496Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:30:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"10096a58-ade2-47d1-8fc5-783f6432a16a","accessControl_ssim":["858b2073-21e3-4858-91ee-af2f1c480673"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The implications of pastoral leadership for selected churches of Northumberland Presbytery"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:30:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:34:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b9258092-63ac-47e8-a65d-491466105008"],"hasLease_ssim":["31d8b4d9-110b-4e9d-8b22-18a398cc4b2a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David A Currie"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James C King"],"keyword_tesim":["Clergy--Performance standards"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Mentoring in church work","Clergy--Office","Presbytery of Northumberland","Leadership in the Bible","Presbyterian Church--Clergy","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["There is a great deal of talk about leadership. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that Calvin's pastoral theology was worthy of serious reflection, careful evaluation, and strategic implementation by Reformed and Presbyterian pastors today."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131535418589184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:49:02.634Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:03:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:41:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"34ae4fbc-b476-490c-aa46-bd1179cd03d8","accessControl_ssim":["4a2e6141-acb4-467a-a1c3-b801b297c98b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The art and praxis of spiritual direction as a pastoral approach for leading Reformed congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:03:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:39:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["67b5fdf1-1a4e-4afc-ba87-bafc369d3bab"],"hasLease_ssim":["b1da6806-e2b4-4ec7-8360-9c54828250a5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Susan S Phillips"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenton W Smith"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Presbyterian Church--Clergy","Spiritual direction","Spiritual life--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Presbyterian pastors trained in spiritual direction try to integrate spiritual practices--silence, discernment, meditative prayer--into their leadership role. The study used semi-structured interviews with four pastors in the Presbyterian Church in America and two from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The review of literature examined scripture, Christian literature and secular literature regarding how leaders lead staff teams. The analysis focused on three areas: how to build trust, what understanding of relational systems are helpful in leading a team, and how personal spiritual growth affects team leadership. The study found that trust is established as the leader practices consistency of character, motivating the team toward a clear vision, developing good communication, mutual accountability, and building an atmosphere of authentic joy. Church staff teams were often strengthened and trust built through difficult situations. The study also found that it is vital for effective leaders to understand relational systems. Finally, the study concluded that spiritual health and vitality are essential for lead pastors to be effective. Effective leaders have consistent and vital times in Bible study and prayer. The leaders interviewed practiced spiritual disciplines on a regular basis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130529596178432,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:33:03.407Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:43:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:05:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d4c22820-58d5-471d-b904-3ac4ac3e6408","accessControl_ssim":["29d56c58-4275-4493-b46c-9e125590c891"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Recovering the function of deacons in Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:43:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:12:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8072f7b3-d9d3-4916-8089-58249f33abb1"],"hasLease_ssim":["3468a78a-50c4-4569-b0bb-7e4af60c7ba7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David D Daniels"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald G Scofield"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Presbyterian churches","Deacons","Presbyterian Church--Clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A Presbyterian congregation facing confusion over the function of deacons can gain clarity with the help of a task force organized to study biblical, historical, and contemporary resources.
