Over the years scholars have differed significantly on the importance of 1 Peter’s contribution to the Priesthood of the Believer and what it means.\r\n\r\nTo shed light on it, an original exegetical investigation into the Greek text, situated in its original historical and literary context, follows. The apostle Peter penned the letter to one of the widest audiences of all New Testament epistles. The audience is a persecuted, geographically isolated, minority people who have every reason to isolate themselves from the unreached and often hostile people around them.\r\n\r\nDespite the bleak situation, 1 Peter 2.4-10 imparts to its audience rich identities as the “chosen people” of God who are founded on Christ, who is the cornerstone. The resulting contribution to the New Testament doctrine of the Priesthood of the Believer is that New Testament disciples must understand themselves not only as those who have the privilege of direct access to God the Father (as only an Old Testament priest would have), but also as those who have the responsibility to declare God’s praises, even in the most persecuted contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2023/McKnight_Jim_MAET_2023.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1816907944383479808,"timestamp":"2024-11-27T20:14:01.833Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:25:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:12:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e1ad0608-5c6f-4505-8755-ebccb65651ed","accessControl_ssim":["01959119-2e5b-4d77-9cdd-1f60ed793dae"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Confirming through prayer governing principles that will guide the next decade of the cell church network in Brazil"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:25:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:35:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ede81ac9-4b5a-4458-b536-258a6b91e1e7"],"hasLease_ssim":["3e7c3ddb-57c6-43db-9e57-fb1cc82471da"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy Wiarda"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"location_tesim":["Brazil"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William A Beckham"],"publisher_tesim":["Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","Priesthood, Universal","Ministério Igreja em Células (Brazil)","Evangelistic work--Strategy","Social networks","Church development, New","House churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["God directs network movements through governing principles that Christians discover through prayer. In order to successfully continue that transformation, congregations must shift to models and modes of operation that honor the biblical concept of 'the priesthood of all believers.' This will free congregations from being overly dependent on clergy and evenly distribute the responsibility of ministry throughout the body of Christ. It is hoped that the ultimate outcome of this program will be to provide that aspect of equipping necessary to help strengthen members in their faith and launch them into effective ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130709244510208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:35:54.733Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:11:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:54:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3f6e0ff0-b801-4eda-9ba6-29d65a5f2793","accessControl_ssim":["8f1f8736-88bf-4e61-a516-f87d1c47fd0f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["They devoted themselves to prayer: reclaiming the ministry of the laity at Bethel Lutheran Church through the ministry of prayer"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:11:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:58:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["93a17dd2-a27b-4193-b03d-3419a7f64fa3"],"hasLease_ssim":["cf6abbbd-fefb-4062-a826-070953160001"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Janet W Parachin"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Barbara B Lemke"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Prayer","Church work","Lutheran Church","Congregations","United States","Priesthood, Universal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project evolved from the question: 'Can prayer and the ministry of prayer bring new life into a congregation while at the same time bring encouragement and support to the laity as a mutual ministry is reclaimed with the clergy?'
