Programs, liturgical formulations or teaching cannot replace that role that each Christian has to hear another's burden and to assure him of God's grace. This paper reviews the theology of forgiveness and especially the role of the human mediator of forgiveness. A contrast is made between current systems of counseling and Christian forgiveness. The pastor met with fifteen parishioners during the season of Lent in order to prepare liturgies for the Second Sunday in Easter, Ascension Sunday, and Pentecost Sunday.  The study discusses what worked and what did not work and then proposes a new model.  What began as a study of lay participation in liturgy planning, ended up with some useful insights into the role of the pastor in the congregation.  A number of issues relating to pastoral function and identity as well as the priesthood of believers are raised in the final chapter. An experientially oriented four-session course was developed for 42 ninth-grade confirmands and their parents.  Five instructors were trained as small group leaders.  A pre-test and post-test was administered to the confirmands and parents, and a follow-up interview was conducted by the two pastors.
