The beginning point of the study is the psychological and spiritual suffering of the alienated psyche in the archetypal wasteland, a painful condition in which the individual feels separated and alienated from his or her own unconscious depths, from other people in human community, and from a seemingly destructive and unavailable God. This archetypal experience is viewed as the a priori condition for the healing of psyche and soul, a transformation which occurs through the establishment of a redeeming link with an infinite source of wisdom, guidance and blessing called, variously, the self-archetype or the greater personality in psychological language, or the mysterium tremendum or wholly other in theological language. The basic assumption of this study is that there is a religious instinct or drive within the psyche which mediates the contents of the objective psyche to the individual through images which disclose the symbolic meaning of events, reconcile opposites, and promote the individuation process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133189847121920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:15:20.420Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:05:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:17:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3a303040-baf9-4081-afc2-5357d1f4564e","accessControl_ssim":["4fca0262-4c08-4cc4-ac85-bf6000106c6d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Feminine psychology and pastoral care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:05:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:49:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["700b02a7-6e9d-452b-91f3-d2ff039b8492"],"hasLease_ssim":["d300031c-ff54-4a49-b6b3-e445c975abbc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["J Earl Thompson"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Craig Ballard Millett"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Women and religion","Theology","Pastoral counseling","Psychology","Women"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project looks at four major theories used to describe a psychology of women, and then outlines the theological presuppositions behind each one of the four. Using the concept of 'levels of truth' from Anne Wilson Schaef's book, Women's Reality, as the organizational backbone, three levels of relationships are addressed. Level one outlines the congruent interface between psychotherapy and spiritual direction where emotional needs and the spiritual search are one in the same. Level two outlines the incongruent areas where both disciplines stand in a relationship of tension. Four areas are explored: awakened consciousness, ego-negation, self-knowledge, and discernment. The bridge building chapter integrates the theory of Winnicott, Rizzuto, and Meissner with the thinking of Needleman, Edwards and Jones. Level three is a synthesis of both disciplines. The method of research is historical and begins with a survey of some literature regarding the origins of consciousness from the unconscious. A study of the human personality according to C G Jung is presented to provide a framework for describing the dynamics of the human personality, conscious and unconscious. A chapter on dreams, symbols and religious experience locates their origins in the unconscious and studies their significance for personal and spiritual development. A brief history of western Christian spirituality is surveyed, indicating a reverence for the unconscious as a source of spiritual growth and personal integration. The spiritual journey foster s a symbolic level of consciousness in order to attach a symbolic meaning to religion, scripture, church, dogma and ritual. This is the foundation for Christian spirituality as the twenty-first century approaches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133399291789313,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:18:40.162Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":8,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Carl L Shesler","hits":1,"label":"Carl L Shesler"},{"value":"Craig Ballard Millett","hits":1,"label":"Craig Ballard Millett"},{"value":"Kristina Campbell","hits":1,"label":"Kristina Campbell"},{"value":"Laurel Artress Ulrich","hits":1,"label":"Laurel Artress Ulrich"},{"value":"Nicholas C Manikas","hits":1,"label":"Nicholas C Manikas"},{"value":"Sharon Adele Whittle","hits":1,"label":"Sharon Adele Whittle"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Human behavior","hits":1,"label":"Human behavior"},{"value":"Individuation","hits":1,"label":"Individuation"},{"value":"Other, The","hits":1,"label":"Other, The"},{"value":"Psyche","hits":1,"label":"Psyche"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Psychology","hits":8,"label":"Psychology"},{"value":"Psychotherapy","hits":3,"label":"Psychotherapy"},{"value":"Consciousness","hits":2,"label":"Consciousness"},{"value":"Jung, C.
