In developing this concept, the constructs of meaning, purpose, and structure are helpful to use. The therapist then must decide which approaches are appropriate to use from their philosophical stand point as well as the needs of the family. An integrated approach to therapy is the most useful. Discussion focuses on sermon memory as it relates to my own experience, the church's varied theological understanding, Scripture, and the insights of psychology.  Research explores the meaning, importance, and development of memory in the ancient faith community, preaching as oral communication, twenty-first century culture, sermon delivery, sermon structure and content, visual and/or auditory aids, and the role of the Holy Spirit in memory.
