The goal of this project was to train a group of people to be intercessors during the Sunday morning worship service. Twelve task force members were led to understand the purpose of an intercessory prayer ministry of this nature and were equipped to pray through an entire service.  The project resulted in positive growth both for the individuals who participated and for the church as a whole. The purpose of the project is to inform the reader of the process whereby one small town ministerial association struggled to understand its ministry, especially in shared worship. Evangelism is a part of mission; worship an action of God's people.  Evangelism is a personal and communal activity of a worshipping community.  The paper recounts worship as it was honed in the Black religious American experience. African American Lutheran struggles with Eurocentric worship are explored.  Five worship models used in African American Lutheran circles are proposed. A sermon series was preached and an eight-week training program was implemented among project participants.  Worship surveys and a pretest/posttest were utilized to evaluate the study. For six consecutive Sundays at the Bolling Air Force Base Chapel Center, the usual amount of lay leadership was significantly increased by advanced preparation and enlisting volunteers from the congregation. Surveys taken before and after the experimental Sundays indicated the congregation liked the additional lay leadership, but not more than about ten minutes total; any more would make the service too long.
