In a Reformed understanding the relation between daily prayer and the Lord's Day service is strengthened by the biblical invitation to pray without ceasing; by the Lord's Prayer, which demonstrates that private prayers are never merely individual; and by a relationship with Jesus through his resurrection. As people outwardly respond to the grace of God in a worship service, they meet God in a profound and transformational way, more deeply than they would if they had only responded inwardly. The project initiated an invitational ministry time during Sunday morning worship of Memorial United Methodist Church and Patton United Methodist Church in Franklin, North Carolina. The project develops a ministry team manual based on a Vineyard-style prayer method and trains members to participate in this invitational prayer ministry. During the four Sundays of Advent, 1996, 201 persons responded to this ministry. They report finding love, peace, comfort, joy, and encouragement in the ministry time experience. The usual Korean church may have 10 to 12 worship services in one week.  This project proposes to explain what spiritual worship is and how it can be improved in order to renew Korean Methodist congregations.  The project also explores how Christians can establish a worshipful daily life. The Lock Hymn Tune Collection demonstrates these acts through performance of select hymns. A lecture/concert presented the hymn collection as a model for linking performance and proclamation.  Hymns selected illustrate the growth of the collection, the variety of musical styles performed by the congregation, and the theological, social, and musical basis on which these hymns gradually evolved.  Through an evaluation of the concert by both audience and performers, the project demonstrates imaginative use of historical texts and tunes in today's church. The project describes the experience of St James United Church in Waterdown, Ontario, as the congregation sought to renew worship by introducing a contemporary and additional service. When a group of laypersons participated in an educational project on worship, the group developed an increased understanding of the meaning, purpose, and practice of worship. They learned tools necessary to develop creative liturgies, and used these tools to participate with clergy and staff in planning and carrying out liturgy for corporate worship. The project analyzes congregational innovations that blend what is central to Reformed worship with liturgical styles from the 'creative,' 'praise and worship,' and 'high liturgical' traditions, using a participant-observer study method.  The underlying theological and liturgical question raised by each blended liturgy centers around the Reformed notion of 'freedom in form.' How much freedom is allowable? How much form is required? The training program included lectures, directed reading, discussion, practice exercises, assigned visits to various churches, and a rehearsal worship service planned and conducted by participants.  Project participants then planned, conducted, and evaluated Sunday morning worship for six weeks.  The project succeeded only in part, since some participants refused to lead public worship, insisting on involvement of members who had not participated in the project.
