The themes that surfaced during the pastor interviews were identified, organized, and presented in accord with the research questions that directed this study. Specifically, the themes that emerged under Biblical Impetuses were 1) Our Oneness in Christ, 2) The Great Commission, and 3) The Second Great Commandment. Those under Identifying the Challenges were 1) Fear, 2) Anger, 3) Distrust, 4) Guilt and Shame, and 5) Surprise. Under Working Through the Challenges: 1) Prayer, 2) The Gospel, 3) Friendship, 4) Acknowledgement, 5) Education, 6) Joint-Congregation Events and Ministries, and 7) Black Leadership. And then under Growth Through the Challenges: 1) The Sense of Our Oneness in Christ, 2) Patience, 3) Humility, Repentance and Prayer, and 4) Obedience. The study revealed that this essential pursuit hinges around 1) prayer, 2) relationships (genuine, contagious friendships that begin with the pastors and flow down into the congregations from there), 3) bold, sensitive pastoral leadership, 4) education on cultures and where our present life together lies within God’s larger redemptive story, and 4) the importance of seeing through one another’s eyes in the midst of the story."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://covenantlibrary.org/etd/2019/Doctor_Craig_DMin_2019.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131010537095168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:40:42.068Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:50:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:34:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3a17579c-a598-4509-b000-8146f2c09fe8","accessControl_ssim":["0cfe41f6-d44b-4918-b842-ba65d9161c61"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Congregational Diversity As A Spiritual Strength: Recognizing Our Common Identity In Christ In The Biblical Metanarrative"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:50:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:48:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b585d194-1d90-4fd5-96cf-63e2c5b92444"],"hasLease_ssim":["91087f8f-b40b-4eb3-91a8-14dea2e0d7c2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Missions and evangelism"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["William Donahue Ph.D.","James Moore Ph.D.","Harold Netland Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The church in question is based near downtown Indianapolis. It is diverse from the standpoint of ethnicity or race as well as socioeconomically, meaning a full spectrum of class, income and educational levels are represented. It is also multigenerational, displaying an age range from high school students that come from the neighborhood without their parents to the elderly. Nonetheless, there are under 100 adults that attend on a typical Sunday, meaning this variety of people interacts on a constant basis. The author delivered a fourteen-part series of teachings that went through the Bible from beginning to end. Seven messages came from the Old Testament and seven more from the New. These messages explored the themes of unity, diversity and our identity in Christ. The author concurrently led three rounds of focus groups consisting of three groups each, which met in homes to discuss the above themes as they appear throughout the Bible. Groups met before, during and after the teaching series. In the focus groups, the church displayed an appreciation for the theme of diversity as it appears in the Bible. They seemed reluctant to speak in terms of the biblical metanarrative, though they saw the metanarrative as the foundation for their identity in Christ. They accepted this as their primary personal identity and something they shared with one another. Further, this congregation valued its own diversity, believing that it equipped them to relate and reach out to a greater variety of people. These views were reinforced rather than initiated by the teaching series, meaning people already held the views."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718461070376960,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:34:33.085Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:25:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:13:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8612d6e9-9f53-409d-a5fb-81ee9f88d311","accessControl_ssim":["c57c3dd6-ad47-4c94-a53d-daac6e131432"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Toward the Spirituality of Oneness: A Remedy to the Attitude of 'We versus They,' A Case of the Turkana and Pokot Communities in Lodwar and Kitale Catholic Dioceses, Kenya"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:25:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:04:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7ecbf1ec-97bc-4aa7-9051-470e574775f0"],"hasLease_ssim":["533db2a1-2268-492b-baa8-20fe68f97575"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Spirituality"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Dawn M. We use the Pokot and Turkana ethnic groups as a case study. Through social analysis and the theological reflection, that is, the dialogue of the problem with Magisterium of the church about the spirituality of oneness based on our Lord Jesus’ prayer, “Father that may be one…” (John 17:21), it discusses ways of how humanity can eradicate this divisive attitude by learning how to live as “one” with the aid of Christian (Catholic) spirituality. On the basis of this examination, a number of Pastoral recommendations are proposed on ways in which the catechists as lay ministers at the grassroots can be able to contribute to the rigorous efforts of combating the sin of division to the unity in diversity which we focus on and term as the spirituality of oneness. Thus adding a new dimension of how humanity is to live as one as it captures the daily dynamics, transformative quality of spirituality as a lived experience linked to our relationship to the Ultimate, with others and society and the cosmic world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129317064835072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:13:47.047Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:23:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:09:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"22c3e954-9e3d-479e-88cc-d4e7a0205034","accessControl_ssim":["56fe54a0-5135-4ed2-b14e-4a39f1195e51"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Spirituality of Fatherhood: Developing a Faith Formation Program for the Archdiocese of Chicago"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:23:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:09:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6416cf8d-2e0f-44ca-bdab-5072af20a450"],"hasLease_ssim":["28a487fa-a957-47b5-928f-8e1304ed4bb8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Educational Witness"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Edward Foley OFM, Cap Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["Illinois"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The meta-method employed for this thesis-project involves the four “movements” of the “pastoral circle” developed by Joe Holland and Peter Henriot, with two additional steps—engagement with theory and correlation. The process included both a broad approach and a personal outreach to those working in the African American and queer communities. Direct outreach to various parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago entailed making phone calls, sending emails, or stopping by a total of 32 parishes. In the end, three focus groups were conducted. The moderator completed all the necessary IRB paperwork and permissions prior to the session meetings. The moderator encouraged participation from each participant in order to elicit information from every single person in the group. To facilitate the discussion, questions were presented to allow the participants to reflect on and share their experiences. Genograms were used to help the participants consider the impact of their personal family history on themselves and their children for several generations back. The project presented and answered the following questions: Does the Archdiocese of Chicago play a role in helping fathers understand how to raise their children, how to fight stereotypes they face about their fatherhood, and how to share their spirituality with their children in a way that interrupts patterns of violence and confronts the social issues they encounter? A two-tiered program was developed to address the concerns that were presented through the course of the project to provide agency for fathers in developing their own spirituality."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129025562804224,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:09.048Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:22:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:19:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e9cfa877-3485-4ec0-be39-cb611b885617","accessControl_ssim":["dd78fbc5-bfd9-4b6f-bb9a-1b7c70e41b08"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Assessing the Value of Building Intercultural Competence for Ministers (USCCB)as a Resource for Preparing White Ministers for Accompanying Latin@ Communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:22:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:49:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["27c0e57f-4c51-4ee3-9fdc-7bb7b9bce98c"],"hasLease_ssim":["56d4a6e0-e52c-4944-838b-a7970a18e0d4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
