The central thesis of this paper is that a vision and ministry, no matter how impressive, cannot belong to one leader but must be embodied in the community through its leadership. Grounded in the theology of Howard Thurman, it calls attention to the pervasive injustices of living in a society of white privilege, racial prejudice, segregation, and discrimination, and to our blindness as members of Christian congregations within this society. It identifies a resistance of the soul and psyche of individuals and society as the 'will to segregate' and argues the need for conversion to the 'will to unite' in order to develop discipleship capable of developing and sustaining multiracial congregations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716583725072384,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:04:42.708Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:44:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:53:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"98b23281-c6d7-4b02-b69d-a043e958fbae","accessControl_ssim":["f1feb70b-8e67-4e7d-877e-849ec85598f4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Provocative worship, Christ centered dialogue: transforming white church into anti-racist community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:44:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:35:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f01d8f43-3b7c-4234-881e-27742ad38dc2"],"hasLease_ssim":["ec0e3263-9ea1-4be1-aa9b-495dc1efddcd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ecumenical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Rose van Es"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Duke G Morrow"],"publisher_tesim":["Ecumenical Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Worship","Church","Racism","Race relations","Social aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The conflict between people of color and white folk is deepening, in society and especially in the perceived bastion of justice and equality: the Christian church in the United States.
