First, this dissertation demonstrates God's preparatory activity in general revelation. The first voyagers to Hawaii had a general knowledge of a supreme being. Second, this dissertation demonstrates God's use of historical events to present special revelation to the Hawaiians through the missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Finally, this dissertation demonstrates the application of research findings toward the writer's present ministry at Puna Baptist Church. These research findings will revitalize Puna Baptist Church's evangelistic strategy. The new evangelistic strategy will utilize the historical fact that the first Hawaiian voyagers had a general knowledge of a later monotheistic supreme being, and this evangelistic strategy will reveal that the religious system was imposed upon the Hawaiians by a foreign entity. The research findings in this dissertation will revitalize the church's focus on discipleship and its assimilation process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133206925279232,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:15:36.707Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:20:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:43:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0e34c020-fd4f-4e61-8c3a-ebfd2a599f61","accessControl_ssim":["d396b055-f935-42d7-a6bf-803bd7947ed7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The spiritual life of seminary students"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:20:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:31:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b2ff33f7-e5a5-4d2a-acb5-2df7ca0fc0be"],"hasLease_ssim":["b7b01a44-5aae-4abb-8c8a-36ecf225f54c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Westminster Seminary California"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy Z Witmer"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gerald McFarland"],"publisher_tesim":["Westminster Seminary California"],"subject_tesim":["Seminarians--Religious life","Religion","Religious education","Theological seminaries","Spiritual formation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Spiritual formation is character formation. A model for leadership development and a new leadership rubric were then refined to be used for future development of leadership and leadership teams."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133560280711168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:21:13.693Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:15:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:03:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"93d2b026-25f2-4f52-b480-fd1cd661a314","accessControl_ssim":["7504321a-90c9-4430-a717-f7eb447306e4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Wu Chang Church: an action-research case study on multiethnic ministries in Taiwan"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:15:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:27:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["076799b2-7b99-43f9-b8f0-d8011f3b2013"],"hasLease_ssim":["3c2a2ee8-5736-49a2-a347-be489ec32d8d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Enoch Wan"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"location_tesim":["Taiwan"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Chun Hao Kuo"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary (Portland, OR)"],"subject_tesim":["Religion","Christians","Missions--Theory","Wu Chang Church (Taiwan)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In response to the multiethnic demographics of Taiwan in the 21st century, the author conducts this doctoral study which bridges the diaspora missiology paradigm with the multiethnic church paradigm by using action research on the Wu Chang Church in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. As a case study, the author uses qualitative research practices, describing the morphing process of this church from a church with a missions program to a multiethnic church. Based on the research, the author proposes a three-concentric-circle of missions to conceptualize the diaspora mission for the church. Based on God's treatment of five biblical heroes and augmented with insight from academic research, the author conceptualizes empowerment as helping someone (a) understand his place in God's big picture, and (b) engage his strengths to pursue God's purposes. Empowering people requires authentic relationship -- giving people your resources, trust, and blessing. The author shares the results of interviews with young men connected with churches on Oregon's south coast. Their candor is refreshing and instructive. Many ministries have wholeheartedly embraced Internet technology through websites, blogs, live chats and a myriad of other applications. While thoughtful people have offered biblical perspective both endorsing and warning against this trend, there continues to be much need to carefully think about how new technologies can come alongside various aspects of ministry in a way that maximizes their benefits and minimizes their inherent dangers. This project explores how the Internet can enhance the impact of a preaching ministry by providing a forum to discuss the content of a sermon after it has been delivered.
