The study discusses the traditional Chinese family-orientation and its continued influence in the values, attitudes and behavior of the English-educated, urban middle-class Singapore Chinese.  The introduction of Western cultural norms through the process of modernization was readily accepted as a basis for marriage and family life.  However, the continued influence of the traditional family-orientation was to be a significant cause of dysfunctional marriages among these couples. Christianity has a unique theological contribution to individuals at the time of death.  That contribution, centered on the resurrection event, is enhanced when it is presented in forms that are understandable to ethnic people in non-Christian traditions who live in close proximity to one another.
