Through 36 interviews with active and inactive Christians and people who are agnostic, atheists, skeptics, indifferent, or hostile to the Christian faith the project evaluates the effectiveness of the catechetical process Basic Christianity as it addresses the Alaskan context and suggests modifications and adaptations to it. Based on a review of literature concerning worldview, animism, and contextualization, the project prepared, distributed, and analyzed a questionnaire among three sample groups: randomly selected residents of Luchou in Taipei County, 60 young men in the military, and 21 acquaintances of church members. The project demonstrates how the Chanoyu (Tea Ceremony), which best represents Japanese culture and spirituality and which has been used in Japanese Christian history, can become the Japanese Eucharist. Just as Japan historically syncretized Buddhism and Confucianism, Japanese experience a cultural conversion to Roman Catholicism that inculturates Japanese religiosity into a specifically Japanese Catholicism.  Overcoming difficulties of syncretizing, or bringing together a new tradition and a distinctly Japanese culture of religiosity, becomes paramount if a Japanese Christian Church is to thrive. If a cultural gap is part of the problem, measures can be taken to help pastors develop greater cultural sensitivity. Surveys investigated differences between perceptions of pastors and members in an Appalachian conference of Seventh-Day Adventists.  Percentages, t-tests for independent means, and correlation coefficients examined the relationship between perceptions regarding Appalachian culture of church members and pastors at the .05 significance level.  All, but one, of the cultural clusters indicates cultural gaps.
