This study was conducted utilizing that qualitative research methodology of the ethnographic interview. Dyadic Adjustment Scale, and the Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory provided scales to measure marital interaction processes and marital satisfaction. The objective of this study was to understand the experiences of those couples in long-term remarriages and the demonstrations of satisfaction as related to marriage relationship. Included are a reflection on system theory, theological and psychological reflections and biblical analysis that challenges traditional beliefs about marriage and divorce. Questionnaires were used successfully to elicit the marital experiences of people in the writer's pastoral charge. Narrative and cognitive behavior therapies are set forth as approaches that can help to heal the wounded in congregations. Insofar as possible, the effectiveness of the divorce recovery program known as Fresh Start Australia Pty. Ltd. was evaluated. The thesis includes a study of the high rate of divorce, the social impact of the disintegration of the family and the perceived failure of the church to address this problem. The writer seeks to encourage and endorse marriage and contrast the benefits to direct and collateral damage done by divorce. Insofar as possible, the writer examined the biblical role of marriage, divorce and re-marriage throughout biblical and contemporary times. The lack of systems support and tools for assisting these families both in and out of the church was met by adapting the Twelve-steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to the blending-family.  Eight couples spent nine two-hour sessions creating and working the Twelve-steps for the blending-family. Using attachment theory, grief studies, and family theory, the project views divorce, single parenthood, and remarriage as a process of mourning and recovery.  Divorce both necessitates and interferes with the usual mourning process.  Unfinished mourning alters expectations about remarriage and potentially hinders the formation of stepfamilies.  Interviews with remarried couples and case material from the author's counseling experience illustrate the theory. Recent literature raises questions about indissolubility and the nature of premarital counseling for second nuptials. Regarding indissolubility, the Catholic priest must be pastoral and ecclesial.  Regarding pastoral preparation for second nuptials, the priest integrates a number of roles. Unique concerns in second nuptials are grief, guilt, building a new family, personal limitations of bride and groom, and spirituality in remarriage. The church now lacks the resources to offer these families the education, support and spiritual guidance which would strengthen the relationships of the couples and the families, make their expectations more realistic and identify the characteristics, stages and developmental tasks of remarriage.  This paper helps fill this gap with a six week structured workshop for remarried couples with blended families. In addition, it presents a scriptural and theological justification for divorce and remarriage, as well as a family systems framework for understanding the blended
