Seventy-six million baby boomers will begin the retirement process in 2006, and, judging from the writer's research, most boomers are not ready to move into retirement, nor will they retire in the same way the previous generation did.  Many boomers desire to transition into retirement -- cut back to part-time, move in and out of a variety of jobs, or even start a new business that will fulfill a dream.  They are looking for significance, have a desire to 'give back,' and have serious financial concerns.  Because it is heavily populated with boomers, the church is certainly going to experience a change because of this prodigious movement of retiring boomers. With adequate preparation and vision, the church is also in the position to reap Kingdom rewards by engaging the boomer in Kingdom work.  This project was designed to understand the boomer woman, her needs and desires as she moves toward retirement, and also to discover ways the church can respond to the boomer and her desire to give back. Eight major retirement adjustment needs were identified and defined through the use of personal observation, research, and questionnaires.  The design of the program focused on the eight major retirement adjustment needs.  Surveys and a pretest-posttest indicated that the fourteen senior adults who participated in an eight-week training program showed an increased knowledge of these problems. The research begins with an examination of nature of retirement in the church and society and how that has brought about the 'rise and fall' of the theory of disengagement.  The remedy presented is for ministry with and for the aging to be grounded in the Christian view of aging.  Aging is then examined in Christian perspectives, through an examination of aging in the Bible, Christian theological tradition, and contemporary society.  Chapter 4 reports the act of ministry itself, a life-review process \u0026 ten class sessions to be used by a pastor to nurture \u0026 equip aging individuals \u0026 groups to remain engaged in the worship and work of the church. Chapter 5 is appraisal of the act based upon the responses of two persons who participated in the act of ministry, interpretation of data collected, \u0026 an appraisal in retrospect \u0026 prospect. Twenty-two Southern Baptist churches minister in this area.  The population of the area has continued to increase, but the attendance in the churches has decreased.  This project describes the development and administration of a strategy for equipping five of the churches to grow by congregationalizing the retirees.  The writer trained and assisted the pastors and leaders of the five participating churches to start retiree fellowship groups. This project demonstrates that a wholistic care model of teaching and pastoral counseling positively affects one's retirement maturity index score (an indicator of one's successful retirement ability), as measured by the Johnson-Gray Retirement Profile (JGRAP).  The project uses a pre-test and a post-test methodology to measure the Retirement Maturity Index (RMI) of seventy-four (74) volunteers who proceed through a retirement course.  The course introduces interventions of personal counseling and seminars.  The study finds significant changes in eleven (11) of the fifteen (15) major areas of retirement after these interventions.  The project affirms the importance and value of the pastoral counselor in retirement
