This methodology was entered into after all other possibilities were deemed unsuitable.  It is a pattern of using a regular rotation of lay speakers and has lasted for four years. Although it presents ideas on how to develop a summer enrichment program for use in a small rural church by pastors, youth leaders, and workers, it can be adapted for use in any local church.  The project provides a rationale for a summer enrichment program by developing a theological and practical frame of reference. Using original sources, the author shows how a liberal 'vision,' above and beyond the 'modernism' of the times, contributed to an unprecedented level of church growth, individual enthusiasm, and social and political influence.  A significant factor was the large number of women ministers serving in Iowa in positions of power.
