The common practices of infant baptism, first eucharist for children, and confirmation of teens has produced this void.  This study examines the religious experience of persons who while fulfilling these first two scenarios do not choose to celebrate confirmation until adulthood.  Interviews and surveys reveal that these individuals experience conversion and confess discipleship within the institutional church.  These persons' experiences support the historical, systematic and canonical teaching of the church. Despite the vast energy poured into the renewal of Roman Catholic liturgy, this project indicates that many Catholics still do not find liturgical celebration to be an adequate expression of their search for, and expression of, God.  Study groups were devised to raise sacramental consciousness.  A comparison of responses made on reflection sheets before and after sessions indicates that the sacramental process had become overshadowed by sacramental events; and for many these events had become empty rituals. The conclusions are: 1. a divorced Catholic is never prohibited from receiving communion; 2. a divorced Catholic remarried outside the church could be admitted to the sacraments without an annulment; and 3. a second marriage can be sacred in the Roman Catholic Church without an
