The purpose was to improve my cross-cultural itinerant ministry in the three areas of preparing for, administering, and sustaining an itinerant ministry. Using action research, data was collected from interviews with twelve experienced itinerant ministers and mined to derive their best practices. As the research subject, I then applied these identified practices to my itinerant ministry. The role is commonly referred to as pastor, shepherd or teacher.  Ordained ministry often comes at the cost of emotional and physical turmoil in the life of a pastor.  This can result in ordained ministers questioning their abilities, their own personal success and even their call into ordained ministry.  In this project seven ministers are interviewed.  They reflect on their decisions to leave or remain in the role as an ordained minister. The impetus of this project was to explore the marital satisfaction of different racial groups by researching the explanations given by happy couples for the reasons of their marital success.  The participating couples in this project revealed many new insights to both similarities and differences when comparing each of the ethnic marriage cultures involved in the research.  When comparing the marital satisfaction of Christian couples from four ethnicities, Christianity was the determining influence on their marital happiness and stability. Learners then moved from self-evaluation to setting written goals that drew them closer to God's standard for their lives.  Finally, participants designed a customized spiritual growth strategy, including specific action steps to reach their goals. For consistent improvement to occur, there must be a plan for evaluation.  In many areas of life it is possible to take personal inventory and evaluate oneself.  Why not practice the same discipline in preaching?  Improvement implies a standard.  The author has concluded that the standard of preaching is made up of three essential elements.  These elements are the content of the sermon, its ability to connect with the listeners, and spiritual life.  A good sermon must proclaim the truth of Scripture, be relevant to those who hear it, and become a supernatural event.  The author then questioned a group of pastors concerning their efforts for improvement.  Fourteen of these pastors volunteered to participate in a six-week project for improvement through self-analysis.  Only three of the volunteers actually participated. The author explains and analyszes the results of the survey and the experiences of those who did the personal review. Exegetical, sociological and resultant theological debates have raged and continue to rage within both scholarly circles as well as in the local church.  Sadly, those who hold a high view of Scripture find this issue more divisive, bitter, and emotional than any other.  Denominational and church splits have occurred as a result of the ongoing debate over women ministering in local churches.  Apologetics from any number of viewpoints abound.  Yet, there is a dearth of information that provides guidance to women considering a vocational call to the 'ministry of the Word'.  Among the overwhelming number of things that have been written regarding women in the pulpit, little has been written about the women themselves. This is especially true of women who have been educated in evangelical institutions and continue to their commitment to an evangelical view of Scripture.  This thesis explores the characteristics that contribute to the effectiveness of evangelical women pursuing God's call to serve as preacher and pastor to the local church.  It identifies the barriers with which women must be prepared to deal in the pursuit of that calling and suggests skills that should be honed as well as the character traits, aptitudes and giftedness necessary for a woman to be effective. This action-reflection project with 19 members of St Paul's United Church was designed to animate lay people within a supportive environment to explore an opportunity for ministry.  Utilizing the Structuralist method of biblical interpretation, T H Groome's praxis method of theological reflection, and papers and exercises on the history and faith of the church, participants explored and wrote personal statements of faith concerning their ministry.  They then identified their gifts and analyzed them according to skills, which were then categorized by priority.  The third section explored personal mission through study papers and a pairing exercise to identify the specific context and meaning of ministry.
