Data was collected via an online questionnaire and the study design was mixed methods with an emphasis on the qualitative data. Study sample included 80 students/alumni from 19 Christian colleges/universities. Generally, respondents felt lonely, hid their sexuality and reported a negative campus climate. Even though the suicide-prevention system targeting the rank and file is quite well-organized and enforced, many officers are excluded from its reach. In recognition of this problem, I sought to test the feasibility of using a trial death education program as a means to help prevent suicide among the army officers. To this end, I designed and put to trial a program of death education especially for the officers within the Korean Army. The founding hypothesis of this study is that death education is capable of helping officers fight the suicidal urge by encouraging them to reflect on themselves and their lives better and more actively. The focus was on initiating and developing pastor support groups, as well as training and implementing a peer coaching network among pastors which seemed to be the best strategy for building biblical community. To prepare for the project I researched appropriate literature and established four pastor support groups that met for six months. Fifteen pastors were in the initial pastor support groups. The author facilitated three six-week support groups in three different congregations, working with family members -- whether child, parent, spouse, or sibling -- who love someone with mental illness. The outcome of the group that went the entire six weeks supported the literature that peer-run support groups are an effective means of intervention.
