The project studied the effect that a Christian humility cultivation experience might have on leaders' understanding and awareness of the amount of prideful attitudes they exhibit, versus their understanding of humility and the amount of humble attitudes they exhibit. Qualitative feedback gained during the humility cultivation experience, along with self-assessment data, formed a solid basis for evaluating the project's effectiveness. The key to their empowerment is the daily resolution of inner conflicts. The project, an intensive, 11-day small group experience conducted over nine months, was self-directed. Written case studies, coaching, videotaping, and peer and supervisor feedback were utilized. This study presents perspectives on self-awareness, identifies instruments for self-awareness and elaborates on the history, research conclusions and the benefits of self-awareness using the Arno Profile System.  A case study is presented to provide a report of the specific work with ten clergy and their responses to the Arno Profile System. The pastoral staff of First Baptist Church, Dayton, Ohio undertook a seven-week formation experience designed to increase their self-awareness around seven delimited foci. The researcher evaluated project efficacy using a mixed methods approach involving assessments and interviews. Research methodology consisted of quantitative and qualitative measures used sequentially to study existing and post-intervention Christian character levels. As a personality typology founded on the psychodynamics of sin in nine different self-presentations, the Enneagram can be used with a theologically based phenomenology and it identifies a direction for continued spiritual growth for each type. Workshop participants find the Enneagram useful in addressing issues of spirituality and increasing self-understanding and insight, but its usefulness in revealing and explaining sin is more limited.
