leadership development. Research explored three biblical metaphors toward a servant leadership development framework: servant, shepherd, and steward. A survey of 110 field team leaders and ten interviews with national leaders responsible for leadership development revealed the need for a biblically grounded paradigm, unique spiritual disciplines for leaders, better equipping for shepherding care of followers, clearer focus toward role complexity, and leaders experiencing greater fulfillment in their calling. The examination of the lives of pastors, leaders, and lay leaders defined as servant leaders based on Patterson's doctoral work, helped in the development of an attribute-driven virtue-focused servant leadership development model. A God-moved heart through the gospel results in servant leadership. Christians apply the gospel as a discipline. Servant leadership literature focuses on practices neglecting inner-formation. However, virtue models consider inner disposition/character. An instrumental case study indicated that the gospel influenced how leaders treated and responded to others. However, spiritual development was foundational for only two leaders. Findings included the importance of awareness, gospel clarity, and the need to move from a virtues-based to a faith-based model of servant leadership. I proposed that doulos be translated slave based on the Pauline assessment and modeling of this biblical doctrine.  Relevant data was gathered using a mixed-method approach to equip PR to parallel two motifs or models: slaves of Christ with slaves to sin who support the prosperity gospel heresy.  The slave language was challenging as PR consists of offspring of American slaves. Yet PR leaders agreed to participate in this project to dispel misunderstanding and encourage an examination of biblical teaching on this avoided topic. This project focused on enhancing tripartite relationships as a necessary component for leadership training. A call to action necessitates that the church provide a pathway and an ongoing process for men to become servant-leaders.  The project results were limited, due to a decline in the number of men who completed the project versus those who began the project, but yet encouraging.  Project participants were invited to discover the theology, concepts, and characteristics of servant leadership.  Participants experienced Jesus Christ as the ultimate model of servant leadership and were encouraged to follow His example in daily life, especially the church.  The results revealed that becoming a servant-leader must be an intentional process.
