Such understanding took concrete form when twelve people undertook a structured project involving group study, journaling, and direct involvement with the homeless and their advocates.  A proposal calling for church involvement with the homeless evolved.  The strength of the project/study arose out of one constant: exploring the relationship between spirituality and servanthood. Some are gifted to be seekers of the gifted.  The challenge is to mobilize these steward-seekers, who can open doors to service, especially at the regional levels of the church.  The method used was to design interventions to test this theory in a particular regional body for several months, after studying the dynamics of volunteerism, biblical teaching, tradition, and current studies in the sociology of groups. Historically they have not utilized a holistic approach of ministering to the total person in all areas of need.
