It asked if their leadership style was congruent with or impacted by the denomination's theology.  Following an overview of the history and theology of the Brethren in Christ, an argument was presented for servant leadership as the leadership style suited for this denomination.  A biblical basis for servant leadership and the spiritual formation of the leader was developed.  Robert Greenleaf's work on servant leadership was reviewed, and his impact on current leadership practices and their congruence with Christian authors was assessed.  John Ortberg's work was used to develop a scale to measure felt and observed leadership/servant qualities.  The core values of the denomination provided a way to measure the theological commitments of its pastors. The author determined through research that servant evangelism has both a biblical and theological foundation. After studying how a pastor can lead his church to an outward focus, the author enlisted volunteers to participate in servant evangelism projects. Three social science research techniques were used to measure the effectiveness of the project. These included a questionnaire in pretest/posttest format, interviews, and focus groups. A leadership group will be enlisted and is to be comprised of fifteen persons: the five-member vocational staff of Morningview Baptist Church and two key lay leaders enlisted by each staff member from his/her field of ministry. The group will focus on the life and mission of Jesus in the gospels in order to determine the mission of the church. Careful study will then be given to the role of leadership in accomplishing that mission with the model of servant-leader given primary emphasis. The project will begin with an overview and pretest before focusing on Jesus' mission through his life and teaching. Assignments will be given from the scripture as well as supplemental sources.
