The purpose of this project, conducted with members of Grace Fellowship Church in Timonium, Maryland, was to determine the effectiveness of a 'SHAPE' workshop and follow-up to increase participants' motivation leading to service. A biblical blueprint for spiritual gifts from Ephesians 4 was studied as well as the functional approach to motivation. Participants took a mission trip to visit a rural church school in Haiti and were then interviewed about their experience. Family systems theory and the theology of service and relationships informed the project and the interpretation of the outcomes. New, lasting interpersonal bonds among the travelers were evident, as were strengthened ties to the sister institutions. As a result, the church is faced with spiritual stagnation that keeps it from growing.  The church has tried in vain to employ various programs to get over this.  Based on the pastoral analysis that the dullness of the class meeting is attributed to the lack of spirit and performance of the class leaders, this paper explores the ten components of servant leadership as a way of restoring the roles of the class leader and activating the function of the class meeting. The Robert K. Greenleaf Center's emphasis, 'Servant leader's ten characteristics,' was made in to the Bible study teaching material, 'Do as I have done for you.'  The teaching material was aimed at the participants who wanted to attend the Ames Korean United Methodist Church small group leadership class.  'A Bible study for servant leadership as lay leadership training program' was successfully executed.  In order to measure the effect on the lay leader training program, the first program of participants completed an assessment of the program.  In order to measure the awareness of changes as a servant leader, the second program of participants completed another assessment.
