Pastors are the most important variable; other significant factors include laypersons, fidelity, morale, locale, ethnicity, cultural conflicts, and personal conflicts. The church is called to communicate God's love and acceptance through ministries of hospitality and welcoming, providing a church-home environment, information-sharing processes, and interpersonal relationship opportunities that will be perceived by strangers as inclusive, inviting, and sincere. Size is not the issue in this mission, although many congregations use size as an excuse.
