A team a church health practitioners from the ABSC, leaders of local Baptist associations in Arkansas, an pastors of churches within the ABSC, were assembled to aid in the strategy's development. Specifically, the aim of the team was not only to engage SMC pastors in the work of church revitalization but to help retain pastors and churches in the ongoing process of church revitalization. Though the community is growing, the church is not. The purpose of this dissertation was to understand why the church’s growth has plateaued. The hypothesis was: as Rhea’s Mill Baptist Church gives attention to issues associated with space, small groups, and focus, the church will move from plateaued to growing.The body of this dissertation is divided into three parts. It begins with a review of relevant literature concerning issues of space, small groups, and focus as they relate to church growth. This is followed by an explanation of why qualitative case study research was used to evaluate two churches that successfully moved from plateaued to growing. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced technology usage to Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. This paper describes the demographic, economic and historical context of the congregation. Then, it explores definitions of Christian community, with an emphasis on boundaries that shape Christian communities. It continues considering Old and New Testament Scriptures as they relate to community formation.
