This project used the equipping program model. The project director conducted research in the field of leading youth small groups. He selected college students and equipped them to teach youth small groups by going through the training material developed in this research project. This weekend training seminar culminated in a lab experience, which consisted of leading a youth small group. Two such men were provided with training and opportunity to lead and teach Cell Life Groups. Two Cell Groups were formed in high crime areas and those two groups met for six consecutive weeks with members of the community. The community found in small groups helped to successfully impact the participants' views of marriage, which were validated through the data. The research method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR) in an eight-week, small group process. All adults were able to identify personal growth as a result of the experience. After struggling to establish a small group ministry, the congregation and leaddership were consulted through conversations, interviews and surveys resulting in a more flexible, focused, and situation-sensitive model. The purpose of this small group ministry is to build a community of disciples nurtured by Bible study and prayer, connected with the church through their leaders, who minister to the needs of those within and beyond the group. Chapter 4 introduces the concepts of the twenty-first century church and small group, investigates and interprets Filipino small groups, and integrates the content of New Testament church practices with contemporary small group theology. Chapter 5 presents the results on the New Testament house churches and their implications for Filipino small groups.
