The hypothesis was that through preaching people can become empowered to participate in social change. A focus group was formed within the congregation using a pretest and a posttest to test the validity of the hypothesis. The objective of this project was to begin the process of getting the congregation the author serves to engage in ministry with other congregations and organizations. As a result of this collaborative effort, a Shalom Zone and Community Development Corporation was developed. Both of these proved helpful to communities characterized by social fragmentation. The methodology employed was that of action research through the use of group meetings, questionnaires, and journaling.
