Population decline manifests itself in the church in two ways: quantitative (membership, attendance, giving, and budget) and qualitative (leadership, outreach, teaching, discipleship, and ministry). Qualitative decline can be distinguished and treated distinctly, and quality can be maintained even as quantity diminishes. This project uses biblical principles to develop and implement a statement of mission that addresses the ministry needs of a declining rural community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132706531180544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:07:39.494Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:58:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2512b469-9e7f-484d-81e2-81ca8a5bc0c8","accessControl_ssim":["b27b0e87-098b-4a0a-b3ca-80dce4df1c8f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Recultivating rural ministry in the Pacific Northwest"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:58:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:13:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["aca1db03-1ffb-46b7-86bf-e0a0dde01c32"],"hasLease_ssim":["4089cea4-8edc-4b14-ac68-110e0cbb78a5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert A Vogel"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael R Moore"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Rural churches","Rural society","Social change","Theology, Practical--Study and teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project analyzes changes in society and ministry in rural communities. African American 'first churches' grew and blossomed, reflecting the diverse population, interests, and concerns of the African American community and practicing ministry from 'down-under' as Jesus did. Taking Asbury United Methodist Church as an example of an African American first church in Washington DC, this project studies how such churches began and developed while explaining why many of them have become middle class enclaves with a privatized religious expression. Their corporate ministry is private and detached, concerned with the institution's internal environment. Past glories of antebellum African American first churches--commitment to liberation and a ministry from down-under, challenging the status quo and preferring the least--are their future hopes."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718942089936896,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:42:11.821Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:49:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:43:00Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"01b733b0-d2ab-44e0-98f4-e6abed0b2687","accessControl_ssim":["f090fba6-d7b7-4fe0-83cd-f38d22c467eb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Critical themes in the cultural disestablishment of mainline liberal Protestantism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:49:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:09:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8d85dfb7-f609-4e96-9e6e-1722b7cbbd2c"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e625c7a-517a-4172-a652-2ca05a9175ad"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James David Hudnut-Beumler"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jeffrey D Yergler"],"keyword_tesim":["Establishment and disestablishment"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Social change","Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Since 1945 cultural changes in the United States have brought about cultural disestablishment of the 'mainline' Protestant denominations, which has in turn generated tremendous struggles within these institutions.
