The paper describes learnings which indicate that the pastoral counselor, in particular, is able to utilize resources beyond the commonly accepted behavioral models, for the responsible practice of care-giving to those seeking his or her assistance. This ministry is to be expressed within all Christian contexts, including the Christian family.  This project focuses upon assisting some families of First United Methodist Church, San Marcos, Texas, to develop their spirituality.  In this project five to seven families participated in a process designed to enable them to express their spirituality in terms of enhanced prayer life, use of faith language, use of the Bible and of Christian witnessing. The project associates planned and led a ten-hour retreat attended by other church members.
