The author learned that research participants are seeking a relationship to God, a connection to people, and personal spiritual growth. Treatment included cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and magazine photo collage.  Beck Depression Inventory and David Burns' pre- and post-session evaluations were employed.  Results were inconclusive based on small group (five women started, four finished, three completed results) and preliminary nature of the study, but suggest addition of spiritual guidance may help reduce depression as it increases relationship with God.  Other factors contributed highly to results. Postmodern Presbyterians long for more balance, order, community, and intimacy with God. The thesis of this project is that these Benedictine practices can provide balance, order, community, and intimacy with God for Presbyterian faith. The project followed the lives of eight Christian lay persons as they sought to embody Benedictine practices over a period of thirteen weeks. Qualitative research methods were used, principally through taped interviews.
