The biblical reference for the project came from Jeremiah 36.  The participants in the program were lay persons from St Luke's Episcopal Church, Mobile, Alabama.  They committed themselves to read selected passages from Holy Scripture, to reflect upon the same through contemplation and to write journal entries related to the experience.  Two questionnaires provided empirical data on the project, which lasted 30 days. The result informs four tasks of pastoral care: 1) training of volunteer leadership, 2) planning job careers with teens, 3) offering spiritual direction, and 4) assisting worship leaders in their planning.  Pastoral care is trinitarian.  Gifts given in creation (personality types) provide the means to the common unity to which the Church is called (sanctification). Such harmony is made possible through atonement (redemption). Decisions are made by consensus.  Plurality is acknowledged. Variety is cherished. An important component of the project is the exploration of the common boundary between spiritual direction and pastoral counseling. Students were evaluated by empirical observation, that involved the student, a peer, and adviser, and the discipler, and reproducibility in a second small group.  The students practiced relational skills and the spiritual disciplines of: daily prayer, Bible reading, time stewardship, group accountability and journal keeping.  The discipler served as a mentor and as a model for the disciplines. This project states that new forms of thought are needed to move away from this dualism.  It proposes a form which, in general, may be called 'art' and, in particular, may be considered 'story'. Part of the thesis is written in an expository linear form and part in a circular story form. Aids such as books, audiotapes, weekly meetings and a guide were provided.  Research included an initial interview, an interim evaluation and a final evaluation (written and oral). The goal was that through this experience participants would confirm and strengthen their responses to the gospel.
