The primary purpose of this project was to facilitate spiritual formation for a small group of leaders in the Trinity Heights Baptist Church.  This project provided each participant an opportunity to enlarge his or her faith by taking a look at how his or her faith developed.  In addition, each participant experienced four devotional practices selected to facilitate their spiritual growth. This project has four parts: a critique of the history, theology, and education methodology of Cursillo; a narrative of the Cursillo retreat; a manual, in the reformed tradition, for conducting the retreat among Presbyterians; and an evaluation by Episcopal and Presbyterian clergy. The body of the dissertation consists of an analysis of a teaching project at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Highspire, Pennsylvania in 1989. This analysis employs the concept of addiction, especially in its symbolic meaning.  Archetypal addiction is to dedicate, consecrate, and devote to the gods.  The archetype of addiction has been split.  We see this splitting especially in the areas of extroversion-introversion, persona-shadow, and animus-anima. A sense of the real comes through the healing of these splits.
