The purpose of this study was to create and evaluate a Wesleyan Faith Development Model that marries Fowler's stages of faith with Wesley's means of grace. Two curricula were tested along with a process control group over a twelve-week period. Two instruments were used: one quantitative pre- and post-test inventory and one qualitative exit interview. Participants came away from the study more aware of God's grace that is made accessible through Jesus Christ and how that grace is received relationally, in the community of faith. The study closes with suggestions for effective implementation with new Christians or seekers. Other recommendations and possibilities for further research are found within the study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134445149880320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:35:17.570Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:50:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:38:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d9d7805d-7c08-4827-8ec9-b6975a0bd79f","accessControl_ssim":["5333b359-8d66-4e94-9e60-a415898a022e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Character development: a study during evening worship at Sardis Chapel"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:50:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:21:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a5c9b138-f523-4cab-8373-f819b7013eb2"],"hasLease_ssim":["53529a9d-9d7f-4ade-bb0e-dba2493d6b12"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Harold William Burgess"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Theodore E Beam"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evening worship services--Christianity","Personality development","Spiritual formation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Using the Rokeach Value Survey and a ten factor Decision Making Instrument, a six week study of the main elements of character was conducted during the evening worship service of Sardis Chapel United Methodist Church to discover if Christian character can be taught. At the conclusion of the series of sessions, the group continued its commitment to the practice of spiritual disciplines and testified to the experience of entire sanctification."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128741042192384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:04:37.709Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:27:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:27:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3fa127c5-dab9-4a71-b559-0cc636a77a19","accessControl_ssim":["157d55e6-8d3d-4ea8-ae1f-fb9831fa6cd2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The development and evaluation of an instrument for assessing the spiritual formation program at Lincoln Christian College"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:27:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:58:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1ff680bc-a7f9-4de4-a418-648608d4a31b"],"hasLease_ssim":["153c9212-5bf2-4fee-ab1c-1306e3941427"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James H Thames"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John K Jones"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Students--Religious life","Spiritual formation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project evaluates how well Lincoln Christian College is accomplishing its goals of spiritual formation with its students. In 1996 when the research began the college had no means of evaluating and assessing the spiritual formation program. The desire was to develop and test an assessment tool for the spiritual formation of students at LCC. The hypothesis was that LCC was accomplishing its goals in spiritual formation. The research methodology sought to develop and test the tool form an initial pretest in May, 1996 and a posttest in May, 2000. The pretest/posttest model was employed, supported by interviews, and a spiritual well-being instrument. The purpose of this qualitative study is to evaluate the formational impact of this practice in a small group reading experience in the Marysville, Ohio Church of the Nazarene. Thirteen self-selected members of the church participated in a thirteen week guided reading experience that required the reading of three biographies according to an agreed class schedule. Participants completed forms recording their reflections and spiritual aspirations as they read and also completed a spiritual life questionnaire before and after the thirteen week study. All of the group sessions were recorded on audio tape and transcribed for analysis, as were individual interviews with each participant within one week of the final group session.
