Three focus groups helped understanding of issues, fashioning of goals, and crafting of the 'faith and reading survey.'  An nth name selection from a church list in a 4,000 sample and 1,021 useable responses.  The survey measured demographics, five behavioral and attitudinal areas of reading, and horizontal and vertical faith levels, making it possible to relate faith level development to religious readership. The project was a test of the 'triangle theory of church growth' which is based upon three interdependent and interrelated principles: spirituality, ministry, preaching/teaching.  These three principles were evaluated by a committee process in relation to selected biblical passages and the ministry context in question.  An outside evaluator analyzed the theory and the committee's work. The disciplined practice of prayer increased in the church. The most success in treating this disease has come through a renewal of one's spirituality. This paper has used the alcoholic and the recovery process of AA's twelve steps as a paradigm for growth in spirituality for everyone facing a variety of dis-eases that disrupt modern life.  This process has been correlated with biblical insights and concepts as the foundation of Christian spirituality. Turretin, Edwards, and Pannenberg demonstrate the inherent fluidity within form intrinsic to Reformed spirituality. Initiating the project was a survey of a congregation's perception of faith.  Results of the survey reflected the need of Baptists to address the place of experience after the 'born again' event, a lack of discipline, and the influence others have on an individual's spiritual growth.  At the end of the project a survey was taken that showed Southern Baptists can develop an understanding of spirituality as journey.
