The author limited the scope of the study in the groups to five key areas of spiritual growth and the groups met for one and a half hours, once a week for forty one weeks.  The author evaluated the groups at the mid-point and at the end of the group life. Evaluative tools employe were surveys and personal interviews. As the priesthood of believers, spiritual friends encourage one another in spiritual growth, which is defined as the increase of each person's ability to consciously and deliberately cultivate a sense of God in her/his life and take responsibility for choices based on that experience of God.
