The project was intentionally designed for the growth of both the mentor and the student.  The project utilized learner-centered mentoring to accomplish the project's purpose.  In this mentoring paradigm the responsibility for the learning experience is shared as a means to deepen the spiritual lives of college students and utilize the influence of each mentor. The project was structured around training sessions, weekly meetings, and follow-up sessions. The project reviewed worldview, contextualization and biblical elements relating to making Irish disciples. The literature search conducted followed the development of Celtic spirituality along with two counter themes or antithetical elements, Christianity and the English in Ireland. Fifty-two questionnaires and three interviews of Irish were evaluated with the literature research to formulate and understanding of present day Celtic spirituality in western central Ireland. The primary focus of the class leaders is collecting money and attending to the physical well-being of their members in a limited capacity.  According to the general rules written by Wesley, attention should also be given to the 'means of grace,' or the practice of spiritual disciplines.  Doing so would significantly shape the lives of the members in their spiritual formation.  The researcher used pre and post surveys, lectures and small group process to gether, disseminate and integrate information respectively.  Readings in the areas of Wesley's class leader system and the spiritual disciplines were used to gain knowledge. The research project concluded that when persons were given tools and were intentional about learning and practicing the 'means of grace,' their spiritual journey was enhanced. The study involved semi-structured interviews with twelve evangelical Protestant converts to Eastern Orthodoxy who reside in Pennsylvania and Georgia.  The interviews and literature review focused on personal, theological, and sociological reasons for the movement.  Among personal reasons, crises, life changing decisions and a desire for spiritual growth played an important part in the convert's decision to move.  Among theological reasons, converts had unanswered questions regarding hermeneutics, ecclesiology, evangelism, worship, authority and the sacraments. Perceived weaknesses in the evangelical Protestant church included the lack of a basis for the interpretation of the Bible, the lack of authority, the lack of unity, the emphasis on individual decisions in conversion, the man centeredeness of worship, being cut off from church history, and the emptiness of the sacraments.  Sociological reasons focused on postmodernism.  Eastern Orthodoxy provided many things postmoderns need and desire: appeal to the senses, meaningful worship, tradition, love and acceptance, and experience and mystery.  The study concluded that the movement of evangelical Protestants to Eastern Orthodoxy was not an evangelistic movement.  Converts were believers before their move to Eastern Orthodoxy.  Many reasons given for conversion point to legitimate deficiencies in the evangelical Protestant church. A concern was raised for the children of the new converts and for long-time members of the ethnic Eastern Orthodox churches because of the obscurity of the gospel.  Evangelical Protestants need to learn more about their own faith and about Eastern Orthodoxy so they can articulate the gospel more clearly with as little offense as possible to unbelieving Eastern Orthodox members. The research design is qualitative. The researcher interviewed individuals to collect data on the integration and practice of the disciplines. Each church believes the disciplines aid renewal and transformation of lives. Through modeling, intentionally teaching, and through personal experiences the selected churches successfully integrated the disciplines into individual believers. Because of the diversity of the churches, their methods are transferable. It was anticipated that completing the discipleship programs researched would strengthen participants' spiritual health in each of the six areas measured. It was discovered that the only area in which the programs studied strengthened maturing participants' spiritual health was that of 'Committed to the Lost.' Other significant discoveries were made concerning the affect of gender, church size and age on spiritual health. Significant contributors to spiritual health were also discovered. Thus, their confidence in providing this care is low. The thesis hypothesized and argued is that the project based upon this thesis would show that an intensive five-day curriculum with a three-month follow-up program would increase the confidence level of the participants. The five-day curriculum trained the participants in intensive disaster emotional and spiritual care leadership.
