Research was conducted regarding the psychological development of teenagers and how their development relates to interpersonal relationship skills. Current research in books, journals, and online resources were used for further study of interpersonal relationship skills. Several high school counselors were interviewed to find out how these skills impact students in schools. This dissertation seeks to answer questions relevant to how stress affects the lives of students, their spouses, and children. Research utilized a polling instrument and interviews of students at CIU.  The results indicate those who responded handle stress in a generally positive manner.  The major sources of stress were time demands, school work, and finances/debt.  The major symptoms of stress were tiredness, anxiety, and irritability. The author interviewed twenty college students, and he examined the written material of major theorists in the psychological and spiritual fields including Erik Erikson, Daniel Levinson, Carol Gilligan, Henri Nouwen, Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection, and Sharon Parks.  The result of this research was that there are three major issues for the college-aged young adult: identity, intimacy, and forming a dream.
