This model of the church comes from the gospel of Mark that presents Jesus as a servant.  If we are to fulfill the servant ministry of Jesus in the church, we need to use the laity to reach others.  The challenge is to get the congregation to understand the meaning of a servant church.  The conclusion of the research revealed a need to revamp the organizational structure of the church. A great number of people, however, are not being reached for Sunday school because they are not attracted to the traditional approach of many churches. The purpose of this project was to offer an alternative to the traditional class.  Working from the assumption that many people would be interested in Bible study without the pressure of studying quarterlies, reading in class, and answering questions, the author developed the class.  Two methods of study were employed in the development of the class: a study of current trends in evangelism and church growth was conducted; and, an in-house survey of current church members and a survey of the community were conducted. It was discovered during the process that a need existed for an alternative Sunday school class. It sought through tutelage to improve the cognitive skills of young African American males.  The Sunday school period provided the modus for implementing this module.  The methodology was to pair mentors with pupils, teaching Bible-based principles combined with an analysis of successful African American personalities. African American professional and business persons were also invited to address the group.
