Christian churches must constantly face the pressure of ministering in a Latter-day Saint environment. The high density Mormon population creates a unique dynamic that necessitates the ability to: explain the distinctives of the Christian faith; defend the accuracy of the Bible; and preach an accurate reflection of Christ to people influenced by this theology. For this reason it is necessary to wrestle with current trends in Mormon doctrine and how they relate to Christianity. This thesis evaluates current trends within the Mormon church to determine whether or not Mormonism is now Christian. It seeks and answers the question, 'What, if anything, has changed within Mormonism?' While there is a deliberate attempt on behalf of the LDS Church to appear Christian, it will be demonstrated that Mormonism has not changed its theology and thus should not be classified within mainstream evangelical Christianity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130090179919873,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:04.347Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:30:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4c170def-b876-4810-9d60-47a4864e32c1","accessControl_ssim":["a2ad093f-c25e-40ed-9b3d-79f160da7978"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Toward a relational theology of Fa'a-Samoa"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:30:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:22:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["12eae284-2734-42eb-aedf-e2f9778dc6e8"],"hasLease_ssim":["2f4504e4-734b-4838-b1d4-6e9259f32844"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Philip Clayton"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"location_tesim":["Oceania","Samoa"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Liona L Thompson"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Religion","Christianity and culture","Religion and culture","Process theology","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to recover and apply the Samoan traditions and values through employment of process theology, in order to construct a relational theology of the Fa'a-Samoa (the Samoan way of living). Samoans a century ago were given the impression that their cultural values and traditions were somewhat primitive and unfit for the Christian faith. They were told that it was a culture of pagans and heathens, and it did not have a place in the community of faith. Samoan people are proud of their heritage and take pride in their culture, but are somehow confused when they attempt to relate their culture to their faith and other different cultures. The negative impression and attitude from the western culture, as well as their own people, makes their cultural traditions weak and less than perfect in relation to the rest of the world. This adverse attitude is prevalent in some areas of Samoa as well as the Samoan community in the United States, where the influence of western culture is predominant. Truly, when two or more cultures interact, the balance of the scale tends to swing to the values of the stronger and dominant culture. The inferior culture will adopt the values of the predominant culture. This is the situation with the Samoan Christians in Samoa, as well as those who are living in the United States. This issue has been with the Samoan Christians from the time when the first Christian missionaries landed on the shores of the Samoan islands. This situation has not confined its unfortunate impact to Samoan culture alone, but has affected other cultures as well. The author believes that there is no wrongdoing in adopting values from another culture. However, there is a real problem and danger when cultural values and heritage are lost. Then persons are unable to contribute to society and to find meaning as part of a community of faith. Hence, this project attempts to relate some of the Samoan values and traditions that express the concept of relationship in relation to process theology. The hope is that this small project will assist other Samoan writers, as well as those who find the sacredness of cultural relationship to be an expression of their faith and the Divine."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131849633824768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:54:02.293Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:30:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30acc275-febf-49c2-b34c-245efb59cc6d","accessControl_ssim":["1778bc02-6862-44e6-8de6-a3f48f322af2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The homiletical value of Paul's metaphors and analogies and their application to the example stories utilized in the context of the contemporary Korean preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:32:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0d56b54f-ee02-46f0-93a4-3c3110cb9207"],"hasLease_ssim":["db0d48e5-c656-4d2c-9552-beb0e9cb61e0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Lincoln E Galloway"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"location_tesim":["Korea"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sungryul Kang"],"keyword_tesim":["Sermons--Illustrations"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Sermons","Paul, Saint, Apostle","Narrative theology","Theology","Metaphor","Analogy","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Effective communication between the preacher and the congregation is a critical element in successful preaching. Paul's marriage and potter analogies in Romans and the planting and running metaphors in 1 Corinthians are excellent examples for contemporary preachers to follow. This study focuses on the perspectives on women in the church context that devalue women as imperfect and inferior beings in relationship with others. It addresses the problematic situation of gender relations in the Korean church context with a critical analysis, and shows how cultural and social norms concerning women are deeply embedded in the Korean church context. It also reveals how the problematic situation has been reinforced by its association with, and acceptance of, fundamentalist theology. This study draws on transformative learning theory as a way of fashioning a new educational model for Korean women in the church. Even though the educational theory of transformative education has been developed and applied in various educational contexts, it has rarely been discussed in a faith-based context. This project shows how it is possible to utilize transformative education theory in a faith-based context, through a case study with a class at a Bible institute. This study also draws upon narrative pedagogy as a practical principle to create a religious educational model for Korean women in the church context. Theological discussion centered on Minjung theology particularly, with the notion of shin-myung, is important in order to contextualize the narrative framework in the Korean context. As a powerful tool for promoting perspective transformations in the church, reading the sacred story, the Bible, is discussed with feminist and post-colonial perspectives. Integrating these theoretical discussions, the religious education model for Korean women is grounded on the group experiences with Korean women in two different settings, church and school. This model can initiate perspective transformation, not only in the women themselves but also in others. The educational experiences in the women's group provide possibilities and hopes for bringing meaningful changes in Korean women's context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132115963740160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:16.284Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:23:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:38:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a6f9b76e-ea03-45fe-bb86-f705c3a50333","accessControl_ssim":["bcf87990-7103-4242-89ae-14cfa0ef5173"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Theory and practice of church community work in Taiwan"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:23:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4cd448d2-bb4a-44f4-94f8-f876609eb77d"],"hasLease_ssim":["d4d31056-522d-433c-9487-f7b58dc80880"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Wilfred Su"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"location_tesim":["Taiwan"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Chih-min Yang"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"publisher_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Church history","Evangelistic work","Bible","Church work","Social conditions","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author's methodology was to emphasize his goal with biblical theology as well as the collection of correlated government publications and academic research. Three passages from Paul's writings (Eph. 1:4-10; 4:1-16; and 1 Corinthians 12) were researched as they relate to cross-cultural partnerships characterized by grace, including Paul's views of community, use of gifts, use of power, and grace. The theoretical issues researched focused on Geert Hofstede's dimensions of individualism, power distance, and uncertainty avoidance. The results suggest that the workshop activities produced changes in the missionaries' worldviews regarding partnership, increased the number of entities the missionaries considered as potential partners in ministry, and helped inspire the grace that allows cross-cultural partnerships to flourish."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver
