This missionary incentive is supported by the preaching ministry of the church. Three types of sermons are suggested as best suited to support this missionary incentive, including mystagogical preaching, apologetic preaching and missional preaching. The intended purpose is that listeners of such sermons will develop a stronger connection between their participation in the Table and what it means to be sent for mission and ministry in the world. The primary focus of the class leaders is collecting money and attending to the physical well-being of their members in a limited capacity. According to the general rules written by Wesley, attention should also be given to the 'means of grace,' or the practice of spiritual disciplines. Doing so would significantly shape the lives of the members in their spiritual formation. The researcher used pre and post surveys, lectures and small group process to gether, disseminate and integrate information respectively. Readings in the areas of Wesley's class leader system and the spiritual disciplines were used to gain knowledge. It uses his primary works (especially City of God, Confessions, On Christian teaching, Commentary on Galatians and 84 propositions from the Epistles of Romans) as they develop Paul's theology of sin. It builds a theological foundation (based on four theological issues about sin: its origin, its nature, its consequence, and its remedy) in order to establish a correct understanding of the topic of sin in a contemporary context. Ultimately, it utilizes that information to develop a practical theology that is integrated into applicable Christian living in four areas: soteriology, evangelism, ecclesiology, and discipleship. This dissertation takes seriously Paul's notion that 'sin is death' (Romans 6:23) and that God has chosen the church to present his remedy for sin to the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131835122581504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:53:48.453Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:19:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:51:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"960a58ee-6b44-4905-870d-28e5b664e4da","accessControl_ssim":["3f01d10d-298a-4e3e-8c77-1e6fa38997ab"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Engaging beauty with undergraduates"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:19:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:31:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fe0ba775-9323-4d5d-b7ba-012c28691a56"],"hasLease_ssim":["9a78d1c7-50e5-4ed1-bf6b-718eb6a421b5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry L Thompson"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Shirley J Kilpatrick"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Theology","Aesthetics--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christian education","Philosophy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis looks at the question of teaching beauty as a theological value. From Galatians the writer will look at the life of Wesley and his theology concerning experience of the work of the spirit in the heart."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129722936098816,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:20:14.116Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:32:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"39c0c409-53b8-4bb1-b83d-9d9a0ff440f9","accessControl_ssim":["986862ff-fd95-42ea-8a97-25f72437d86b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The graves are not silent: a case study of repentance, racial reconciliation, and spiritual renewal"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:48:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6c25d5cf-24ab-495c-8dc3-615f97fc2215"],"hasLease_ssim":["321cfecc-72af-4ab5-94f9-bf7e70455a02"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David B Humphrey"],"keyword_tesim":["Reconciliation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Reconciliation","Race relations","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["After describing a case involving the recent rediscovery of historic, unmarked African-American gravesites on land formerly owned by a local congregation, the author develops a practical theology of spiritual renewal through repentance and racial reconciliation. Christian churches must constantly face the pressure of ministering in a Latter-day Saint environment. The high density Mormon population creates a unique dynamic that necessitates the ability to: explain the distinctives of the Christian faith; defend the accuracy of the Bible; and preach an accurate reflection of Christ to people influenced by this theology. For this reason it is necessary to wrestle with current trends in Mormon doctrine and how they relate to Christianity. This thesis evaluates current trends within the Mormon church to determine whether or not Mormonism is now Christian. It seeks and answers the question, 'What, if anything, has changed within Mormonism?' While there is a deliberate attempt on behalf of the LDS Church to appear Christian, it will be demonstrated that Mormonism has not changed its theology and thus should not be classified within mainstream evangelical Christianity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130090179919873,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:04.347Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:57:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:52:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"99e95497-d768-4ab2-9486-90e5a1641ea7","accessControl_ssim":["dcf8e4c6-7900-44ca-b031-625cb080ea0d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The promise of hope in pastoral counseling"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:57:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:38:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b149a9a1-a250-4622-b753-f776eb6347fd"],"hasLease_ssim":["67e2d57b-846a-4bef-bcb4-d67b0626b145"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Randall Charles Paige"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Hope","Theological anthropology--Biblical teaching","Case studies","Theology","Pastoral theology","Pastoral counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The promise of hope in pastoral counseling presents an integrative approach and model of pastoral counseling.
