Research was conducted with members of a liberal Disciples of Christ congregation in Boulder, Colorado. Volunteers received spiritual genogram interviews designed to stimulate reflectivity about ego, spiritual and relationship needs. A subgroup also participated in twelve hours of support group work. Theories of object relations, transpersonal psychology and the theological framework of Paul Tillich were applied. The data provide a rich look at the characteristics of spirituality in a liberal environment. The analysis supports the thesis that spiritual growth and development are inextricably interwoven."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f3d74d9-8a9b-4580-a458-c2d78a76b977"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715943255900160,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:54:31.910Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:41:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:57:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ae431e62-aef4-43d7-8896-5b202ba09925","accessControl_ssim":["93dca79f-0967-4d01-b91b-2d3f540c8333"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Biblical authority and interpretation: a study for congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:41:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:09:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e9011ea6-0fdc-45bb-ab8b-dd00172974ce"],"hasLease_ssim":["1e763b57-f376-406f-a979-f022047163c6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Jack C Verheyden"],"year_tesim":["1998"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Louise Miller Row"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Warfield, Benjamin Breckinridge, 1851-1921","Luther, Martin, 1483-1546","Barth, Karl, 1886-1968","History","Bible","Theology","Schleiermacher, Friedrich, 1768-1834","Biblical interpretation","Tillich, Paul, 1886-1965","Gregory I, Pope, approximately 540-604"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project proposes and prepares an eight-lesson adult study course presenting six different approaches to issues of biblical authority and interpretation through the work of six theologians--Pope Gregory I, Martin Luther, Friedrich Schleiermacher, Benjamin B Warfield, Karl Barth, and Paul Tillich. It looks at theologians and artists influenced by Paul Tillich. It provides a case study of Matisse, Coburn and Rothko's chapel paintings. The second part of the dissertation project is a creative project that includes the painting of seven major works that were hung in a Protestant worship space. Congregational members were invited to respond to the work and their conversation recorded to show the ways in which they 'did theology.'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721246883053568,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:18:49.843Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:44:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"daee4079-5819-49b1-a855-842145ac809f","accessControl_ssim":["68998291-0a73-467c-9dd7-d450a7112318"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Interpersonal relationships: an object relations approach to the doctrine of grace as set forth by Paul Tillich"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:44:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:23:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["aa405008-c7c3-4f40-9397-88a9a79ba719"],"hasLease_ssim":["1e2cff9c-df2a-41cc-b2ad-d6c117bf99b6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Edgar A Towne"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald A Loper"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Grace (Theology)","Tillich, Paul, 1886-1965","Whitehead, Alfred North, 1861-1947","Self-actualization (Psychology)","Object relations (Psychoanalysis)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This work argues that the process by which one's object relations develop is one in which God is intimately involved.
