Using pilgrimage theology he created a series of prompts and accompanying quotations from the Bible and ancient and contemporary pilgrims to spur attentiveness and feed reflection on sacramental faith in every part of a traveler's story. The guide was tested in both cocurricular and curricular service learning. It is also a powerful metaphor in all of human life.  It can be used to convey an understanding of life with God to those inside and outside the Christian faith community.  Uses of the journey image in Scripture are explored and contemporary application is made. Initiating the project was a survey of a congregation's perception of faith.  Results of the survey reflected the need of Baptists to address the place of experience after the 'born again' event, a lack of discipline, and the influence others have on an individual's spiritual growth.  At the end of the project a survey was taken that showed Southern Baptists can develop an understanding of spirituality as journey.
